Come with us to one of the most remote and unspoilt areas of mainland Scotland. This rugged peninsular, which is only accessible by sea or on foot, provides spectacular scenery and stunning panoramic views.
Using the WalkDeeside luxury minibus we will depart from Aberdeen early on Friday morning and drive over to Mallaig, stopping at pick up points en route. At the quay we will transfer your luggage to a private ferry for the 15 minute exhilarating trip to Inverie. The views up Loch Nevis to the conical summit of Sgurr na Ciche set the stage for a weekend of dramatic scenery.
Our luggage will be picked up from the pier whilst we walk the short distance to The Gathering. Our excellent B&B has wonderful views of the loch, with a hot tub in the garden and Wi-Fi for the use of guests. The comfortable bedrooms, each with TV, can sleep up to 4 in a combination of king size beds, single beds or bunks.
Following a briefing on the two mountain days ahead of you we will walk down through the village to Britain’s remotest pub, The Old Forge, which serves excellent food, sourced from local seasonal ingredients.
On Saturday, following breakfast (one of the highlights of staying at The Gathering), we will set off on our first mountain day. Taking account of the weather conditions we will probably head for Meall Buidhe and Luinne Bheinn. These two Munros, in the heart of Knoydart, are challenging in terms of navigation, distance and the terrain they occupy. However, stunning views from the summits and a sense of achievement will be an ample reward for your efforts. A relaxed meal at The Old Forge followed by a good night’s sleep will revive and prepare you for another strenuous day.
On Sunday our focus will be set on Ladhar Bheinn, one of Scotland’s finest mountains. Overlooking Loch Hourn, a complex set of rocky ridges and corries offer wonderful 360˚ panoramas of mountains, lochs, sea and islands. You will return weary and ready for your evening meal, satisfied that you have just experienced one of the grandest of mountain days.
On Monday, following a more leisurely breakfast you will have time to wander along the shoreline or to discover more about the Knoydart Foundation that was set up in 1999 following the local community’s purchase of much of the peninsular. Then it will be time to leave this magical wilderness and catch our private ferry back to Mallaig for the drive back home.
