Sustainable Tourism Statement
WalkDeeside Ltd. was established in 2002 with the vision and foresight to see that an outdoor activities and walking holiday company offering customers a quality service built on sound environmental issues was the future way to grow such a business and make a real contribution to Royal Deeside, Scotland and internationally.
Since then we have witnessed an increase in wildlife watching, customers desiring a quality and responsible outdoor experience whilst on holiday and also taking into account other environmental concerns when booking holiday activities. To assist those discerning UK customers we have produced an Environmental Policy which details how staff will respond to conducting responsible local birdwatching activities, working with local landowners and communities and also recognising the Geological Code of Conduct and the Country Code.
This considered approach to the environment is also central in developing our philosophy of delivering inspirational international expeditions. Our international products are based on years of experience and first-class local contacts to ensure we deliver a quality product. We offer not just an opportunity to achieve a summit or traverse a mountain range but a fulfilling experience working with local people, understanding and appreciating local cultures and encouraging a sustainable use of the international environment.
WalkDeeside have adopted the Mramba School in Northern Tanzania as our charity and have been instrumental in forming a Trust to support the school. The Trust have donated books, school equipment, adopted 4 students with clothing and lodging support and rebuilt the school kitchen. This is ongoing work and demonstrates a practical application of our ethos.
As a result of the above approach and hard work of the staff team we are delighted to have gained a GOLD Award from the Green Tourism Business Scheme, a significant achievement and validation in how we manage our working environment.
